O Lord Padmanābha O Dāmōdara O Vāsudēva!
niṣkaḷa nirañjana śrīvāsudēva svāmi
puṣkaravilocana śrīvāsudēva 2
O the spotless, pure, Lord Vāsudēva,
O lotus-eyed Vāsudēva.
duṣkṛtavināśana śrīvāsudēva svāmi
dhikkṛtasurārijana vāsudēvā 3
O destroyer of evil deeds, O Lord,
O you who defies the enemies of gods, O Vāsudēva
bhaktajanavatsala śrīvāsudeva svāmi
mattajanavismṛta śrīvāsudēva 4
O Lord, who cares lovingly for his devotees,
O you who forgets about the wanton lot, O Vāsudēva
marttyajanmameṭuttuṃ yyā piṟantēnē svāmi (ttayo taḷarntene)

O Lord, I am burdened with a human life,
O you who took the form of a fish, O Vāsudēva.
nāmarūpaṅkaḷe vāḻtti makiḻntene svāmi (nāmarūpaṅkaḷai pārttu)
kūrmmaveṣaṃ dharittōnē vāsudēvā 6 (rūpaṃ tarittōne)
I rejoice praising your different names and different forms, O Lord,
O you who took the form of a tortoise, O Vāsudēva
sāgarattin naṭuvile maṟintēnē svāmi (lē)
sūkaramāyudittōnē vāsudēvā 7 (tittōne)
I am being tossed about in the middle of the sea of life, O Lord
O you who arose [from the ocean] as a mighty boar, O Vāsudēva
dēhamōhamatināleyuḻantēnē svāmi
siṃharūpaṃ dharittōnē vāsudevā 8 (tarittōne)
I am troubled due to the confusion that my body [is the soul],
O you who changed into a [man-]lion, O Vāsudēva,
kāmanāyiṭṭātmatatvaṃ maṟantēnē svāmi (kāmanayālātmatatvaṃ)
vāmananāypiṟantōṉē vāsudevā 9
I have forgotten the meaning of the soul, due to the [worldly] pleasures, O Lord,
O you who incarnated yourself as Vāmana, O Vāsudēva
mārggabhēdaṃ tiriyāte naṭantene svāmi (teriyāte)
bhārggavanāypiṟantōṉē vāsudēvā 10
I roamed [the world] ignorant of the correct path, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as Bhāragava, O Vāsudēva
lāghavaṅkaḷatumatilaṟintēnē svāmi (tilatilaṟi)
rāghavanāypiṟantōṉē vāsudevā 11
I know that all [mundane things] are trivial, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as of Rāghava, O Vāsudēva, .
kāmarasavalayileyuḻuntēnē svāmi (cuḻantēnē)
rāmanāyppiṟantōnē vāsudevā 12
I am trapped in the web of lust, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as Rāma, O Vāsudēva.
kṛṣṇāyennu vaṅkuḻiyiluḻantēnē svāmi
kṛṣṇanāyippiṟantōnē vāsudevā 13 28
Calling ‘O Kṛṣṇa’, I suffered a lot in a mighty pit, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as Kṛṣṇa, O Vāsudēva.
pattu dikkumāśayāle paṟantēnē svāmi
buddhaveṣaṃ dharittōnē vāsudevā 14 (tarittōne)
Out of desire I flew into all ten directions, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as Buddha, O Vāsudēva.
duṣkṛtikal naṭuvile kalarntēnē svāmi
kalkiveṣaṃ dharittōnē vāsudevā 15 (tarittōne)
I am surrounded by evil-doers, O Lord
O you who incarnated yourself as Kalkin, O Vāsudēva.
cāttiraṅkal palavuṃ ñānaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi (śātti) (nā)
certtuṃ kolka pādattōṭu vāsudevā 16 (śerttuṃ) (pata)
I am (not) proficient in many of the scriptures
Let me prostrate at your feet, O Vāsudēva,
daivavuṃ ñānatumitumaṟi[yē/ntē] nē svāmi (taivavuṃ) (nānatu)
sarvavuṃ nī jagannāthā vāsudevā 17
I (don’t) know that I am one with the god, O Lord
You are everything, O Vāsudēva, Lord of the Universe.
puṇyapāpagatikaḷe aṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi (ḷum)
ninnuṭaya kṛpayenyē vāsudevā 18
Only because of your kindness I (don’t) know virtues and sins, O Lord
O Vāsudēva.
śuddhyaśuddhividhikaḷumaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
cittaśuddhi nalkā vēṇaṃ vāsudevā 19 (nalkaṇaṃ nī)
I (don’t) know the precepts of purity and impurity, O Lord
Please purify my thoughts, O Vāsudēva
bandhamēt mōkṣamētennaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
santataṃ nī kṛpa ceyka vāsudēvā 20
Bondage and liberation, I (don’t) know which is which, O Lord
Always have mercy on me, O Vāsudēva
sātvikaṅkal rājasaṅkaḷaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
tatvabuddhi kṛpa ceyka vāsudevā 21 29
I (don’t) know all the qualities which are sātvika and rājasa, O Lord
Graciously grant me the wisdom of truth, O Vāsudēva.
kāraṇaṅkal kāriyaṅkaḷaṟi[ntē/yē]nē svāmi
kāraṇane nīyoḻiṅka vāsudevā 22 (ñcu)
I could (not) understand the causes and effects, O Lord
Without you, the real cause, O Vāsudēva.
brahmamennuṃ māyayennumaṟi[ntē/yē]nē svāmi
kanmaṣaṅkal vērpaṭukka vasudēvā 23
I (don’t) know Brahman and Māya, O Lord
Please root out all sins (karmas) from me, O Vāsudēva.
dikkukaḷuṃ deśaṅkaḷumaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi (diśa)
duṣṭaṅkaḷaṟukka nī vāsudēvā 24 30
I (don’t) know the directions and places, O Lord
Please sever the evils, O Vāsudēva.
kālapāśaṃ karmmapāśamaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
kāḷameghalōbhanīya vāsudēvā 25
I (don’t) know the rope of time and the rope of deeds, O Lord
O Vāsudēva, who is as handsome as the rain clouds.
tatvamētu cittamētennaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
tatvabōdhaṃ kṛpa ceyka vāsudēvā 26
I (don’t) know what the truth is, I (don’t) know what my mind is, O Lord
Graciously grant me the wisdom of truth, O Vāsudēva.
svarṇamētu kuṇḍalamētennaṟi[yē/ntē]nē svāmi
svarṇamōhaṃ verpeṭukka vāsudēvā 27
I (don’t) know how to discern a rope is gold and which is an earring, the form of gold, O Lord
Please take away my infatuation with gold, O Vāsudēva.
rajjuvētu pannagamētennaṟi[ntē/yē]nē svāmi
arjjunanōṭaruḷ ceyta vāsudēvā 28
I (don’t) know how to discern a rope from a serpent,
O Lord Vāsudēva, who imparted wisdom to Arjuna.
dehamōhamoḻiccu nin kṛpayālē svāmi
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 29 (haṃ)
By your grace, I do not have the confusion that the body [is the soul], O Lord
An experience of ‘I am That’, O Vāsudēva.
āṭṭamillanakkamillayātu 31 pō[kē/lē] svāmi (anakkavumillitu)
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 30
It is as if without motion, without trembling, O Lord

binduvilla nādamillayatu pō[ke/le] svāmi

It is as if without point, without sound,
The experience of ‘I am That’, O Lord Vāsudēva.
kāṯṯalayā viḷakkile nāḷaṃ 33 pōle svāmi
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 32
It is like a flame that the wind cannot move, O Lord
The experience of ‘I am That’, O Vāsudēva.
bhaktiyōgaṃ muktiyōgamatināle svāmi
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 33
With Yoga of Devotion (Bhaktiyōga) and Yoga of Liberation (Muktiyōga),
[I have] The experience of ‘I am That’, O Lord Vāsudēva.
jñānamennuṃ jñēyamennumaṟi[yē/ ntē)nē svāmi
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 34
I know [the process of] knowing and the knowable objects,
[Now that I have] The experience of ‘I am That’, O Lord Vāsudēva.
cūḻamilla 34āḻamillayatu pōle svāmi (cuṭṭamillāṭṭamillatu pōtē)
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudevā 35
It is as if without warmth, without depth,
The experience of ‘I am That’, O Lord Vāsudēva.
cāṭṭamilla vāṭṭamillayatuṃ pō[tē/lē] svāmi
sōhamennoranubhavaṃ vāsudēvā 36
It is as if unwavering, unfading, O Lord
The experience of ‘I am That’, O Vāsudēva.
deśamilla vāśiyillayatu pō[kē/lē] svāmi (neśa)

It is as if there was no place, no dwelling, O Lord

It is as if there was no force, no protector, O Lord

śaktamilla śaktiyillayatu pō[tē/lē] svāmi (śattamilla)

It is as if there was nothing powerful, 37 no force, O Lord

Let all good things come [to me] with your grace,

Let bad thoughts of bad people be cleared, O Lord

Let the followers of the Vedas rejoice, O Lord

iṣṭi koṇṭu dēvalōkaṃ teḷiyēṇaṃ svāmi

With the rituals the abode of gods shall be cleared, O Lord

With the rain the terrestrial world shall be cleared, O Lord

nāḷutoṟuṃ tirumēni teḷiyēṇaṃ svāmi

Let your holy image come [to my mind] every day, O Lord
