-getting of Kosala by Sudarshana.

( Sudarshana along with his new wife reached his kingdom

and became the king there. This is described in chapter 25 of

book 3 of Devi Bhagawatham)

1.Having killed Yudhajith and Shatrujith in the battlefield, you

were pleased with the prayers that was chanted in the battle

field, after blessing Subahu and other devotees, you

disappeared from there while everyone was seeing.

The yudhajith, who screamed that he would kill sudarshana

in the battlefield, was killed. Also his daughter’s son,

Shatrujith - sudarshana’s step-mother’s son-that is his step

brother-was also killed. Yudhajith had planned to get

shatrujith married to Shashikala. Their reluctance and enimity

towards devi destroyed them. subahu prayed to the devi with

full devotion. After blessing all the devotees devi

disappeared.

2.When questioned Sudarasana told the kings, “The goddess

you saw in front of you, is the all powerful one. That devi

who does not have any form cannot be seen even by the

Yogis. But when she takes a form, then devotees who are

humble can see her.

The kings who were present there did not have any

resentment nor closeness to yudhajith or sudarshana.

Without taking part in anything they were witness to

everything. After the devi disappeared they asked

sudarshana,” who is this devi”? Sudarshana told them the

importance of devi. Devi is saguna and nirguna. Nirguna devi

is not visible to even yogis. The devotees can see the saguna

devi. Devi appeared in front of non-devotees like shatrujith

and yudhajith. But they could not understand the devi-only

people who are humble can understand.

3. It looks like some passionate power(rajasic shakti) has

created this world. It also looks like that the world is

protected by the power of goodness. It looks like the power

of ignorance, appears to destroy everything. That essence is

the Goddess and all other things that are there, is different

from her.

Devi is nirguna and saguna also; to the yogis she is nirguna

and to the bhaktas she is saguna: it is the same devi that

creates this world. It is devi only who is preserving it and

protecting it. In the ocean she creates water-waves-foam-

bubbles. Within minutes she preserves it and merges it with

her. Creating water-waves-foam is a common exercise for

her. Water does not create anything. Be it foam-bubbles-

waves all are water only. Nothing new is born from water.

Devi is creating the world is similar to that. Nothing has been

born that is different from Devi, nor will it ever be born. the

object-the good object-that can be said exists in the 3

worlds, is Devi only. It looks like water creates wave foam and

bubbles. Same way we feel devi creates this universe. We feel

that The nirguna devi takes the rajoguna form and creates,

takes the sattva guna form and protects and takes the tamo

guna form and causes destruction. Devi only creates; the

object for creation also is devi; the foundation of creation

also is devi.

4.The Goddess who is full of mercy removes the problems of

her devotees, creates great fear in those who trouble her

devotees. Ever since I came to stay in bhardwaja muni’s

ashrama with my mother, I have been praying to her.

Devi is full of compassion, she is always trying to destroy the

desire for material things in her devotees. She does not spare

people who trouble her devotees. We just saw this in the city

of kashi. Subahu, sudarshana and others got the blessings of

devi. Yudhajith and his followers were destroyed. In his

childhood, while sudarshana was staying in Bharadwaj muni’s

ashram, he started praying to devi. He always chanted ‘kleem

kleem’, devi’s kaamarajmantram . (check dashakam 15). That

chanting was fruitful.

5.She is the one who grants you good life and also salvation

and so pray to that devi with complete devotion from now

on. May you always get good things. Hearing this the kings

bowed their head and humbly told him, “We will do”, and

returned.

Sudarshana gave correct answer to the questions asked by

the kings. They saw the influence and mercy of devi directly,

they also heard about from sudarshana. In front of him they

bowed their head in all humility. They all left for their

respective kingdoms by giving a firm answer that they would

pray to devi in future.

6.Sudarshana along with his mother and bride, took leave of

Subahu, got onto his chariot, and entered the city of

Ayodhya like how the husband of Sita entered long ago,

made every one happy.

Sudarshana bid adieu to subahu and proceeded to the

kingdom of kosala-along with his bride shashikala and his

mother Manorama. He got onto the chariot and reached the

kingdom of ayodhya. Long ago, when sri rama, after killing

ravana, along with sita and Lakshmana, reached ayodhaya,

the people of ayodhya were extremely happy. on seeing

sudarshana return, who had gone in his childhood, the

people were very happy.

7.Oh great goddess he who was your devotee, sought

Leelavathi, whose father and son were killed and who was

grieving and did not have any support, saluted her, consoled

her by telling ,the way of karma in this world.

The first thing Sudarshana did was to go and pay his respects

to Manorama’s co-wife, Leelavati. Long ago Sri Rama on

returning from the forest went and paid respect to Kaikeyi-

similarly Sudarshana did. Kaikeya was Sri Rama’s offender.

Here Leelavati had not done offence. Now what is the

situation of that mother? - Dhruvasandhi who was her

husband was killed many years ago. Now her father

Yudhajith and son Shatrujith both were killed. Leelavati was

in a situation like what Manorama was long ago, when

Veerasena died. Sudarshana was behaving very sensibly and

humbly towards Leelavathi. Nobody can predict what will

happen to them and when. Face any situation with courage-

only this as humans we can do. He said like this to Leelavati,

and with devotion. Sudarshana’s good behaviour and kind

words reduced Leelavati’s grief.

8.Then Sudarsana worshipped the Goddess, in front of all the

people. Thus, he was crowned by the Guru. With speed got a

temple constructed for you. He also laid out a plan for the

procedure of your worship.

With the death of Shathrujith, the kingdom of Kosala was

without a king. Sudarshana only was supposed to have been

the king. He gathered all the people of the kingdom and

conducted a Devi puja. After that, Rajaguru Vasishta crowned

him the king. He got a temple for the Devi constructed in his

kingdom. He got regular pujas performed there. During the

autumnal Navaratri he conducted special pujas. Performing

Navaratri puja by adhering to all the rituals, guarantees the

blessings of devi.

Becaused during his childhood in the ashrama, he used to

regularly chant the kaamrajmantram-‘kleem kleem’-he got all

that he desired-he easily got back his kingdom, he got a very

devoted wife also. Devi transforms a weak person into a very

strong person was already mentioned earlier (check 11th

dashakam 8th shloka), sudarshana’s story is a very good

example. This is the story of devi’s influence and mercy.

9.Under his rule people constructed temples for Devi even in

villages and worshipped devi very religiously. Subahu did the

same in the city of Kashi. Everywhere Your merciful sight was

flowing.

When a king is a devotee of Devi, then the citizens of that

kingdom also turn out to be staunch devotees of Devi. They

went from village to village conducting pujas on Devi. Same

was the situation in the kingdom of Kashi. Devi’s merciful

blessings were always flowing.

10. We may not experience pleasure by doing a lot of good

work, nor by creating children, nor by acquiring or earning

wealth, nor by practicing yoga or studying philosophy, nor

by observing fasts and rituals. Oh mother! man can acquire

happiness only by true devotion towards you.

For a person who has no devotion everything is useless,

everything is full of sadness. Otherwise, for a devotee

everything is pleasurable. Devotion with love is the best.

11. I am not Subahu nor am I Sudarshana, nor do I have

anybody to take refuge in like Sage Bharadwaja. Oh

Maheshwari! you are my only Guru, friend and relative.

I always am saluting you.

Subahu was a devotee of devi. Because Sudarshana was

fortunate to take refuge in Sage Bhardwaj he too became a

devotee. The poet reminds devi that he did not get such

opportunities-friend, relative and guru everything for him is

devi only. He requests devi to bless him accordingly.

Devi bhagvatham 3rd skandam, chapters 14-25, the story of

sudarshana has been explained here.

Thus ends the 17th chapter

1.Oh Goddess, with speed that young man (sudarshana),

hearing the words of his bride, full of happiness, along with

his mother, worshipped Bhardwaja muni and after bidding

him farewell, and remembering you (devi), in a chariot rode

to subahu’s city.

After his divine vision of the devi, Sudarshana who had

become devoted to Shashikala, was waiting for an

opportunity. It was at this time that the brahmana came gave

the bride’s message to him. Hearing this sudarshana became

extremely happy. At almost the same time, there arrived in

bhardwaja muni’s ashrama, a sage, who predicted that

without much delay sudarshana would get back his kingdom

(kosala desh). At the same time the nishada king of

shringivela had gifted sudarshana with a chariot. Because of

all these good omens, sudarshana confirmed that something

good was going to happen to him. Along with his mother he

went near bharadwaja muni and took his blessings, bidding

him adieu, and remembering devi, climbed onto the chariot

and reached the city of kashi raja.

2. he who had conquered all fear, entered the hall where the

kings who were invited for the swayamvara were seated and

sat along with them. People who saw them started saying

that the girl was a work of art and the boy was equivalent to

a full moon.

Sudarshana went into an assembly of strong princes who had

been invited for the swayamvara. He was fearless. Ordinary

people who had come to attend the swayamvara repeatedly

watched sudarshana, Shashikala and the other princes. They

all felt sudarshana was the most eligible groom for

Shashikala. People started to say ’sudarshana was like a full

moon and Shashikala was the piece of art in that’. The moon

and art cannot be separate-like that.

3. may it be the bride who developed a passion towards him

(sudarshana), remembering your (devi’s) words, did not enter

the hall where the kings who could not control their senses

were seated, inspite of being ordered by her father,.

Shashikala recognised sudarshana who was seated in

assembly. At this time she remembered Devi’s words.[please

check 15th dashaka 5th shloka]. Sudarshan is more

handsome than what she had imagined. She developed a

passionate liking for sudarshana. Because of that she did not

go to rajya sabha. Compared to sudarshana all the other

princes were dull. Her father subahu, forced her to go to

assembly hall. She persisted that he invite sudarshana to the

marriage stage and donate her to him(Sudarshana). She had

already drawn a picture of a man mentally. She also

reiterated that there was no need for her to go and display

her beauty in front of unknown men.

4.Those kings were filled with doubt. The hot-blooded

Yudhajith who was very angry said in a loud voice, “This bride

who does not have knowledge of the world, should not be

given to a weak-hearted Sudarsana.”

The other princes guessed that the bride might be devoted

to sudarshana. Somewhere something was wrong they all

understood. Yudhajith, who was the strongest amongst all

who had gathered there said in a loud voice, ’the bride

should not be given to sudarshana’. The bride is not worldly

wise and sudarshana is very weak.

5.I had left him alive at the hermitage because he was a mere

boy; He has come here as my enemy; The bride should not

marry him. If she does I will kill him. I will also abduct her.

Earlier yudhajith was prepared to take Manorama and

sudarshana from bhardwaja’s ashrama by force. Not taking

them that day was a mistake. That boy who was a mere

refugee that day has become my competitor today-thinking

like this only increased yudhajith’s want for revenge from

sudarshana. he told subahu that he should give the bride to

sudarshana. Suppose she insists that she will marry only

sudarshana, then I will kill him and runaway with the bride.

The Shashikala swayamvara episode is one of the most

dynamic and dramatic episode in devi bhagvatham (check

6. Oh Goddess, some kings who desired good for all,

hearing the words of Yudhajit, approached Sudarsana and

told him everything. But the fearless and brave Sudarsana

did not budge from his position.

Those who wish that only good should happen to us are our

well-wishers. Some of the princes who were the well-wishers

of sudarshana and Shashikala, did not want them to face the

dangers from yudhajith, went to sudarshana and gave him all

the information. ‘whatever has to come will come. Then why

fear?’-sudarshana was of this view point. He did not have any

anger nor was he vindictive towards yudhajith. Everything is

Devi’s wish. Sudarshana was of the firm belief that all who

are under Devi’s protection will be safe.

7.Subahu who was caught in between his daughter and

Sudarashana on one side; and the strong and angry

Yudhajith on the other side; standing in between them, with

humility saluted the kings, started talking quickly to them.

Sudarshana did not come to take the girl by force. He has

not committed any crime. However, telling sudarshana to

leave from there was also not the right thing to do. Also

Shashikala refused to look at any other man except

sudarshana. And if she marries sudarshana-definitely

yudhajith will rebel. He is strong also. Thinking of all this,

subahu came to the assembly hall and said.

8.Oh Kings, please hear what I have to say. My daughter is

but a kid; she is now refusing to come to the marriage hall.

Hope all will pardon her. Tomorrow, I will bring her here.

Today all of you please go to your resting rooms.

Today the marriage will not take place. It has been shifted to

the next day. So no one need wait at the marriage hall. All of

you please go to your respective resting places-this is the

gist of what subahu told the princes. He said like this

knowing very well that he will not be bringing his daughter

to the marriage hall. To escape from the current situation

there was no other way. The father did not know that his

daughter’s liking for sudarshana was this strong, so he did

not think.

9. oh goddess! after everybody went away, Sudarsana, as per

his mother’s wish, following the rituals, praying to and

meditating on you, got married that night, to the bride given

by Subahu,

After hearing subahu’s request all the princes went to their

respective resting places. People like yudhajith thought that

there was something amiss. Still they went to the resting

place and passed their time. At night subahu invited

sudarshana to his inner chamber. He gave his daughter to

him over there. With the permission of his mother and the

blessings of the devi he got married to Shashikala. Like this

their marriage took place peacefully.

marriage in the morning, with great anger, along with his

army and shouting with a loud voice, stopped Sudarsana , his

wife and his mother, who were making arrangements to go.

Subahu and all his supporters understood everything in the

morning. They felt that they had been ditched. Along with

the army they waited at the entrance door. Sudarshana along

with his mother and bride got onto a chariot and started

their journey. When they reached the entrance gate,

yudhajith and his army roaring loudly obstructed them.

“Kleem, kleem” and you who removes the sorrows of your

devotees appeared in the battle field riding on a lion.

At the entrance gate a war took place between yudhajith and

supporters of sudarshana. Around this time subahu started

to chant the devi’s kamaraja mantra. Without any delay devi

appeared on the battlefield riding on a lion. On seeing a lady

on the battlefield yudhajith and his supporters burst out

laughing. Devi and yudhajith fought against each other.

12.Oh mother, I am spending my time singing your names,

telling about your glories and worshipping you, but you have

not appeared before me even in my dreams. Oh mother

please show mercy to me

Devi appeared in front of sudarshana, subahu and Shashikala

while they were awake, and in their dreams. Inspite of

praying to the devi for so many years not once has she

appeared before him-the poet is very unhappy about the fact

that not even once has devi appeared before him. He prays

to the devi for her compassion and salutes her.

Thus ends chapter 16

Note:

Kamaraja Beeja Mantra

Another important beeja in mantra sastra, is Kama raja or Manmatha beeja –

“Kleem”. This pervades many vidyas and maha vidyas in all the major religions

in Sanatana Dharma – Sakta, Vaishnava…

It has four matrikas, “ka” “la” “ee” and “m”. “ka” is kama. “la” is prithvi beeja, it

also thus stands for creation. As seen, “ee” is Maya and “m” is anusvara. One

attains fulfillment of all desires with the siddhi of this beeja. Among the yogini

ganas or matrikas, those like “ka” are called asuddha or impure ones. Usually

“ka” is appended with some Suddha beeja. The suddha-asuddha nature of the

beeja determines whether the Devata is worshiped in a pleasant or terrible

form – whether adorned with gold and beautiful jewels, dressed well and

pleasant, seated on a throne in a beautiful city, or whether adorned with skulls,

naked and roaming in burials. It has nothing to do with the beauty or mercy or

the capability to give moksha or approachability of the devata.

“Ka” when appended with “la” or prithvi beeja, becomes Kama raja beeja. If in

the same sequence Agni beeja “ra” is used instead of prithvi, it becomes

“Kreem” – the Kali beeja. And it makes all the difference between a beautiful

form and a terrible form. And the preparations, dhyana, nyasa, everything one

does preparing for a pleasant devata, end up inviting a different force

altogether – leading him in a different direction in mantra yoga and even

harming him. This is the reason why, even one matrika should not be messed

with in the mantra. And this is why extreme care is needed in mantra yoga. In

kamya, one’s expectation can be reversed with errors in chanting. Even in para

vidya sadhana, the qualities he thinks he is invoking and what he invokes differ

altogether. And without proper redirection from guru, the seeker will end up in

a different place.

Manmatha is another concept, after taraka, which is very similar between Sakta

and Vaishnava. Manmatha is Vishnu’s son. He occupies important position

in Saiva-Sakta stories. He is turned into ashes by Siva. Then Bhandasura

emerges from the ash, who is killed by Lalita. Subsequently he is made the

king of Kama, and Isvara allows Himself to be defeated by Kama, thereby

uniting with Devi (this is how Kumara swamy is born).

The essence of all this is that Kamaraja beeja has significant place in both

Vidyas. It is the middle beeja in Bala Tripura Sundari Vidya. Bala is the

“daughter” of Lalita, the way Manmatha is the “son” of Vishnu. Bala is Maha

Tripura Sundari Herself too. Vaishnava Vidyas have Kamaraja beeja too. In fact

it is the primary and central beeja of Sri Krishna mula mantra – “Kleem Sri

Krishnaya Gopi Jana Vallabhaya swaha”. The various names of Krishna, such as

Syama Sundara and Madana Mohana, indicate the importance of the kama

raja beeja in Krishna Vidya.

Kama or desire – iccha has primary role to play in entire creation. The cycle of

universe is said to start from the desire of the Lord and the Mother’s cosmic

play to please Him. This is the reason why, love for God, His creation and

cosmic play, have more important role to play in Sakta and Vaishnava

traditions, than Vairagya. The upasana of Suddha Tatva of Vishnu, or Nishkala

Siva involve more Vairagya than bhakti.

(There Sudarshana learnt your Bheeja manthra and kept on

chanting it the Goddess told him to get married to the

princess of Benares..You also told the princess of Benares to

get married to Sudarshana. Though Swayamvara was

arranged for the princess. She sent a letter to Sudarsana to

attend the swayamvara. This occurs in chapters 18-25 of the

book 3 of Devi bhagvatham,)

1.Thus only due to your mercy, evam tavaiva kri'payaa  that boy kumaarah'  called ,Sudarsana,sa sudarshano'yam .

grew up vavri'dhe ..in the cool shade of the, Sage’s hermitage ,munivaryasheeta-

pootahri'd And making the sages there drown in joy. aashramaante

sammodayan munijanaan  15-1..

Even the very strong yudhajith was not able to see bhardwaja

muni. Under the calm and composed guidance of that muni,

sudarshana grew up fearlessly. In the atmosphere of the

ashrama, the chanting of the vedas was always there.

Sudarshana grew up in an atmosphere full of love and

devotion. Seeing the purity in Sudarshan a's behaviour, the

munis in ashrama were very happy.

2.There he, aabaalyam esha due to the company of the sons of sages, munibaalakasangamena who always used to Chant there tatrochchachaara  “Kleem, kleem”,kleem kleemiteeshvari sadaa which is your root mantra, tava beejamantram .you took mercy on him, kri'payaa'sya purah' once. kadaachi-  and daavirbabhoovitha appeared before him When he saluted you,  natam tam you told him like this.abhaashathaashcha .. 15-2..

When the wind of devotion to Devi blows, the  boat of life

is pushed towards the shore faster. The story of sudarshana

is one among many stories that makes this clear. Sudarshana,

an orphan reached the ashrama of bhardwaja, his playmates

were the sons of the munis, the sound of the vedamantras

echoing around him. He was able to hear the sons of the

muni always chanting ‘kleem, kleem’. That young lad too

started chanting ‘kleem kleem’. In this way sudarshana

crossed his boyhood, adolescence and moved towards

adulthood. ‘kleem’ is devi’s kamaraja Mantram. Due to

constant chanting of this mantram, the devi was pleased, and

one time she made herself visible to sudarshana, and said like

this:

3. “Oh Son, I am pleased with you preetaa'smi te suta and please understand, avehi

maam jagajjananeem

that I am the mother of the universe

who fulfills all desires. sarvakaamavaradaam

Let good happen to you.  tava bhadramastu .You please get married by following

all the rules, vidhinodvaha tvam ..to the moon like face without any blemishes, chandraananaam vimalaam shashikalaam

Shashikala, who is the daughter of Subahu, the king of Kasi.subaahoh' kaasheeshvarasya tanayaam  15-3..

Devi, The mother of the universe, came in front of him:

started talking to him by referring to him as ‘my son’. By

blessing ‘May all good happen to you’ The devi was showing

the right path to sudarshana for his future welfare. By

marrying Shashikala, the daughter of kashiraja, all your

troubles will be dissolved.

4.Your enemies  tavaarivargaa would all die without much delay.nasht'aa bhaveyurachirena The

kingdom usurped by them raajyam cha yairapahri'tam will become yours again. punareshyasi tvam .

You will then live with both your mothers maatri'dvayena and ministers sachivaishcha samam happily. By always Following all Dharmas,”  svadharmaan kuryaah' sadeti Saying this she

disappeared.samudeerya tirodadhaatha .. 15-4..

Devi is predicting the good times that is going to come on

sudarshana-destruction of enemies, regaining of the lost

kingdom, like this many more. You will have both mothers-Your

mother Manorama and her co-wife leelavati. You should not

be angry with leelavati and the ministers who served

yudhajith. The emotion called anger does not suit a devotee.

A good king should never have feeling of hatred in him. You

should obey the rules of the kingdom. Saying this devi

disappeared.

5.” You appeared in shashikala’ dream and told her,  thus svapne tvayaa shashikalaa kathita iti

“The noble Sudarsana dheemaan sudarshana born in the famous Kosala dynasty, prathita kosalavamshajaatah' .

is the son of Druvasandhi dhruvasandhiputra and lives in the hermitage  Of

Bharadwaja.a'sti bhaaradvaajaashrame Choose him as your husband, enam patim vri'nu and you would

then lead a very happy life.”tavaastu shubham sadeti .. 15-5..

The same devi who came in front of sudarshana, also made

herself visible to Shashikala also. Devi’s plan was to introduce

Shashikala and sudarshana to each other. Looks like devi had

intentions of blessing subahu -shashikala’s father- with the

marriage of Shashikala and sudarshana.

Shashikala understood that, there was a prince sudarshana,

residing in the ashrama of bhardwaja muni, who was the son

of dhruvsandi, who was the king of kosala.

6. When she woke-up, suptotthitaa   tu though she was intelligent, matimatyapi  she was not sure na vyajaanaat .whether what she experienced in her dream svapna anubhootam was true or false. anri'tam kimri'tam na veti

Oh Goddess,  devi ..

she saa who  was  pretty sumukhee asked pri'sht'aat shrutva

Brahmin dvijaat

about Sudarshana’s story sudarshana kathaam and fell in love with him.a'nuraktahri'dayaiva babhoova

Shashikala woke from her dreams and sleep. Seeing the devi

and hearing the story of sudarshana, was it true? Is it a myth?

Is it a play of the mind?-she did not know.

One day while plucking flowers in the garden, she saw a brahmin. She asked

his wellbeing. He had come from bharadhwaja ashrama. He

knew sudarshana. Whatever she wanted to know about

sudarshana she asked the brahmin. The brahmin said,’

whatever good qualities that should be there in a man, is

there in him. If you both get-together, it will be like a jewelry

made of precious stone and gold.’ Having said this much, the

brahmin went his way. Shashikala was confirmed that her

dream was true. She started to sympathise with sudarshana.

7. When subahu subaahur learnt nyaatvaa that his daughter Shashikala liked

sudarshana, who had no kingdom, no armies, nor a permanent place,

he was very sad idamaakula maanasastaa-m; along with his wife sahesht'apatnyaa .

their efforts to dissuade her from the marriage to sudarshana  asmaannivarttayitumaashu kri'tvaa prayatnam-which was futile.akhilam viphalam cha pashya-nn

He decided to hold a swayamvara-ichchhaasvayamvaravidhim   for future betterment.hitameva mene .. 15-7..

Subahu who came to know about it became worried, along

with his loving wife tried to change Her opinion speedily and

seeing that everything is useless, decided that Swayamvara,

where the bride Marries whomsoever she likes, is better.

Long time ago, kings got their daughters married in 3 ways.

1. A suitable boy is invited home and the girl is donated to

   him.

2. According to the rule(for a fee) give her.

3. Call many suitable boys and allow the girl to choose the

boy on her own, and get her married to that boy.

The 1st way of getting the girl married was done in early

days. The swayamvara of sita in the ramayanam and the

swayamvara of Draupadi in Mahabharata are examples of the

2nd type of wedding. The 3rd type of marriage is what is called

icha swayamvaram. The story of indumathi swayamvaram in

the 6th chapter of kalidasa’s work, raghuvamsham is an

example for the 3rd type of wedding.

So subahu invited all the princes and decided to have

Shashikala married by icha swayamvaram. He hoped seeing

the rich and powerful princes, his daughter would change

her mind. As soon as they received subahu’s invitation,

princes came in hordes to the city of kashi. At this time what

Shashikala did is explained in the next 2 shlokas.

8.One day kashchitkadaachana A Brahmin viprah'met Sudarasana sudarshanametya and told him like this, praah

“I have come here as per the words of Sasikala shashikalaavachasaa'hamatra aagatah' .and she wants

to tell you,” saa tvaam braveeti- Hey prince, nri'paputra  As per the words of the mother Of the universe jagajjananyaa  vaachaa I have chosen you as my husband.vri'to'si patirasmi  I am only your humble servant .”

tavaiva daasee .. 15-8..

As per the invite sent by subahu, many princes and kings

came to kashi. Shashikala called a brahmin next to her and

told him all the news. She also gave the message for

sudarshana to the brahmana. Without any delay, the

brahmana went to bharadwaja’s ashrama. He told

sudarshana all the happenings at the kingdom of kashi. The

brahmana after introducing himself gave shashikala’s

message to sudarshana. The message begins:

9.” Several  bahavas kings have come here.atraagataa nri'patayo Oh courageous one, sudheera please

come here;tvametya    I who is loved by you, is seen by others, teshaam mishataam   show

disrespect to them and just take me away ”naya maam priyaam te .. These are the

words of that bride.evam vadhoovachanam And so, please bring her aanaya taam who is good natured.susheelaam May good happen to you” Saying this bhadram tavaastvidamudeerya  that Brahmin

went away jagaama viprah' .. 15-9..

Shashikala message begins: in the city of kashi many princes

who are strong and prosperous are coming. Shashikala was

least bit interested in them. She wanted Sudarshana only.

Sudarshana should come to the city of kashi, take her and

go-this is her request. To do this Sudarshan is worthy-he is a

prince and daring, the brahmana was of the opinion that

shashikala’s request was logical and he should listen. He

knew that she had a very good character. After conveying all

the message the brahmana left.

10. A good devotee sees you pashyati bhaktavarya-

stvaam in his dream and also when he

is awake. svapne cha jaagrati cha He also always listens to your sweet words. santatam tava vacho madhuram shri'noti .He gets

prosperity and later on freedom. aishvaryamaashu labhate'pi cha muktimeti   I wish only devotion towards you. Grant me-only devotion; I salute you tvadbhaktimeva mama dehi namo jananyai .. 15-10.

I have only devotion to you.Oh mother my salutations.

Sudarshana saw devi when he was awake. Shashikala saw her

in her dreams. Both of them listened to what devi said. Devi

bhakti is best for love and prosperity. May devi bless him

with devotion prays the poet.
