CARNATICA'S SUMMER CAMPS AT CHENNAI AND OOTY - OVERWHELMING SUCCESSES

Carnatica organized a very unique Summer Camp at its T.Nagar premises from May 1 to 10, 2002. This camp was aimed at giving the students an overall exposure to voice training. The course included Yoga and Voice culture in addition to devotional music, folk music and Japanese music. The students were also taught some masterpieces in Carnatic music. This camp was very well attended by students between the ages of 3 and 20.
There were also classes on Hindustani music which were handled by Smt. Saumya Madangopal.
Devotional music was taught by Smt. Seetha Narayanan while folk music was taught by
Smt. S Sowmya and Smt. Ganga Ramachandran. The classes on voice culture and masterpieces in Carnatic music were handled by Smt. S Sowmya, Sri. K N Shashikiran and Sri. P Ganesh. A crash course in Japanese music was offered for the very first time in Chennai as part of the course. Miss Mayumi Yamada from Osaka, Japan was the course instructor.
One of the other highlight of the camp were the guest lectures and classes by reputed musicologists and musicians like Prof. S R Janakiraman, Sri. N Ravikiran and Sri. N Vijay Siva.
The 10-day camp concluded with a music test for all the students, and deserving students were awarded certificates of merit.
